Isolation

30 MAY 2025

In 10 years of working in the city David has never seen anyone push the emergency button. Honestly, he’s not sure what it does. Or if it even works.

He’s working the night shift tonight. 6pm-2am. It’s currently midnight. A few people have passed by but no one has seemed off. He’s starting to doze off a bit. The boring aspect of this position leaves plenty to dream about.

Someone stops at the emergency post. He can’t see them perfectly clearly because of the light beaming between buildings. David gets a chill down his spine. Nothing seems wrong but he gains a nervous energy from the person at the post. They push the emergency button and blinding red light begins flashing from the top.

David swears someone pushed it but when he looks over, there’s no one. He rubs his eyes to make sure it’s not the sleepiness. The light continues to flash but no one is around.
